When life gets hectic and hairy, I escape. In the car, I rely on daydreaming about moving into George Clooney's Italian villa and languishing seaside with a glass of white wine. At the kitchen sink I gaze outside on a blooming flower bed and that makes me feel happy. When I've got a little free time, I leave my reality and delve into a good book to travel through time and space to a better dimension than the Here and Now.
Books have brought me to England, the Grand Canyon, Cuba and Japan. I've seen most of the world and experienced centuries of history through books. In my most frazzled moments, I can close my eyes and stand in a Concord orchard beside Jo March, eating apples and inhaling the crisp fall breezes. I can stroll through the green hills of Ireland, lie beside the sea on the sand, take coffee beneath the shadow of the Eiffel Tower at an outdoor cafe or eat a croissant beside the roaring fireplace at Gabri's bistro in Three Pines.
The best books offer a getaway to Someplace Else and Alyssa's book Austentatious is no exception. I've never been to the South By Southwest festival, or to Austen, Texas for that matter. Escaping the reality of loads of laundry, taxes and homework battles to experience a little bit of romance with a Scottish rock star at an Indie music festival was a new route for me to take, and pretty dang enjoyable. Plus, Alyssa includes gourmet cupcakes in her book. Bonus!
This book is the running theme all week here at Chez Green Girl. I'm giving away a copy of
Austentatious to one lucky winner. Entering my Frazzled Contest is easy--each comment in the comment box is an entry to win. That's all. I'll pick a lucky winner Monday and mail them a copy of Austentatious. It's that easy and that awesome.
Spill it, reader. How do you escape those frazzled moments of everyday life? TV? Running? Wine? A book?
