I ask you, is there anything more fun than chaperoning the annual fall field trip to a pumpkin patch/apple orchard with elementary school kids? We learned, we picked, we tasted, we smelled, we rode on a wagon, we listened to a story, we sang, we petted goats, we got muddy and by golly, this year each chaperone was given a caramel-coated apple as a "thank you" for helping out.
As if I needed any further incentive.
Mr. G still wanted to sit next to me on the bus and hold my hand while we walked by the trees.
I even learned something new--I do every time, but this time I learned that you can grow peach trees in Wisconsin. The orchard got 2 from Canada (the other thing I learned: Canada has peach trees!) and harvested 24 peaches this year. Amazing. I had no idea.
I do despise fall, but there's something about an apple orchard that takes the despair out of it for me.
Spill it, reader. Your favorite school field trip--as either student or parent chaperone.
