Living Cheaply and Loving it in Small Spaces
Living cheaply and loving it in small spaces is doable when you examine your personal habits.
Ever wonder if you could downsize easily?...It is 2009 and the economy is in the tank and 10% of the workforce is unemployed. It may not improve to the level we were used to in the past.
Especially affected by the downturn are the baby boomers, of which I am one born in 1945.
Downsizing may be forced upon some of us...but take heart we have downsized to the extreme and it is not all that bad...in fact it is very liberating to know that you are utilizing what you have in an efficient manner.
What I am not is a tree hugger, kook, or hippie...but you can downsize without sacrifice.
We went from an 1800 square foot home in 1994 to a 35 foot sailboat...then we really upsized to a 40 foot RV...Oh boy flat walls! We were living cheaply and loving it in smaller spaces.
We did not miss the house one bit when we moved onto the sailboat for 8 years...you don't have to move to a sailboat to downsize maybe you want to move to a small condo, park model mobile home, or move to a house that is 50% smaller. None were as extreme as a sailboat or RV...so we know you can do this.
First realize that you spend most of the time in your house in a few areas. You have a favorite chair to watch TV, you sit at the same place to eat your meals, we all have to use the bathroom and we all have to sleep someplace. You can have all this in a sailboat, RV, park model or efficiency apartment or condo. All you have done is eliminate the spaces you use infrequently.
Examples of non essential spaces in your home: spare bedroom(s); hallways; formal living and dining rooms; spare bathroom(s): most of your garage.
Now examine an RV or a boat. They all contain a kitchen, a bedroom or berth, a bathroom or head, a place to eat and a place to relax. Everything that you need (not possess) in a house, you have in the boat or RV with no wasted space.
Living cheaply and loving it in small spaces is doable. We have done it so can you...now any questions about moving to a condo?
Enjoy.
