Cheap Living in Retirement - It is Not What You Think

Cheap living in retirement is not just for the frugal, we all are watching our spending habits in 2009. However, there are some good signs, in the current mess... Credit card debt decreased at an annual rate of 3.75 percent in May. Meanwhile, the individual savings rate which measures how much of their disposable income Americans saved, rose to 6.9 percent, up from 5.6 percent in April.

We need to keep this up when the economy turns around. Cheap living is going to be with us for quite a while.

It seems  especially cruel for those retiring now...or  were planning to retire.

You don't have to give up retiring you just may be forced to look at cheap living in retirement options.

Here is the good news...there are several lifestyles that are not only cheap they are loads of fun. A silver lining in the current clouds of doom.

Consider:

·         Living on a sailboat in the Caribbean  

·         Fulltime RVing  

·         Park model mobile homes  

·         A combination of two of these lifestyles  

All are cheap ways to retire and all are very enjoyable. The only thing you might miss out on are the joys of commuting or shoveling snow. No big loss IMHO.

All of these lifestyles involve downsizing in square footage and becoming a more efficient user of the space you have.

If you think you couldn't possibly cut back a square inch, think of the last time you used your formal dining room, spare bedroom, or certain items in your garage. In reality we eat most of our meals at home in a certain spot and spend most of our time in a certain chair or sofa. We all use the bedroom and bathroom on a daily basis.

Sailboats, RVs and park model mobile homes have a favorite chair, a dining table, a kitchen, bedroom and bath...there is just no wasted space.

You can live for several years; we did just that, in combinations of the above and live very well. These lifestyles are cheap living in retirement without sacrifice. You can do this as well.

So if you think you don't have enough money to retire take a look at the above ways of cheap living in retirement...you will spend a lot less.
