It's a beautiful day outside but my windows are closed because the farmers are spreading manure on the fields, but that's not the only thing that stinks today.
I have books to read, gardens to tend, pages to write and apples to smash into sauce.
But I don't want to do a thing. Except eat chocolate and gaze outside.
We put Violet the Semi-Stray cat to sleep this morning. Lady Vi, killer of mice, birds, rabbits, rats, squirrels, and on one occasion even a ferret. Violet who purred loudly, never scratched or bit anyone, who made our house cozy and who couldn't move her bowels. Miss Violet who lived here with us for 5 years. Her grave is dug--a deep hole in a sunny spot in the front garden where she used to lurk beneath the birdbath to catch a quick snack. The funeral service will be at 3:30 followed by an early dinner. Her gravestone will be signed by the people who loved her.
I can't find any chocolate. And frankly I have no stomach to eat it if I could.
