I feel GIDDY and JOYFUL. JUBILANT and HOPEFUL. I skipped my son across the field to school today--my heart full with all the excitement of what might happen NOW. "Thank you, God. Thank you!" has looped through my mind all morning.
I remember how angry and bitter I felt towards the party that let me down by completely whiffing the '04 election. I remember how frustrated and ripped off I felt in 2000 when the Supreme Court granted an election in defiance of the popular vote. Today? "The sun is shining, the tank is clean and we are getting out of here!" * Our President-Elect stated last night, "change will take SACRIFICE and SERVICE." My response is, "Let's roll up our sleeves and get after it!" What an opportunity!
I'll respectfully keep my distance from my mother and a few other people for a while--let them lick their wounds. But I don't feel sorry for them because I endured their choice for close to a decade. I didn't pack up my sons and move to Canada. I didn't shut down and remove myself from the system. Like Apathy Lounge so eloquently wrote yesterday, I got on with life and they will too.
My foolish grin and occasional "Whoo-hoo!" won't wear off any time soon. Today feels GOOD.
To new beginnings and happy endings.
