A day of happy discovery...

Green Girl's not going to lie to you, folks. Spring is not pretty in Wisconsin. It's muddy and slushy and obstinate. Piles of snow stubbornly remain in the shady spaces. When the snow does melt away, garbage is revealed--blown about by gusty winds when it's not waterlogged in place like clumps of cement. Spring brings into focus empty beer cans and fast food wrappers. Spring looks gray and beige, not pastel and cheery.

But then one day Green Girl looks out her window and sees this:

If she squints, she can see it--barely--the tiny shoots of green. Bulbs! Irises and Tulips! Crocuses and Daffodils!

And suddenly spring seems more hopeful.
