A 600 sq. ft. California Cabin Retreat

Stocked with finds from budget go-to's like west elm and ikea, this rustic retreat was made beautiful on a modest budget. Even the cabin (it's a rental) was found on craigslist!

The cabin was built in the 1970's, but they've managed to make the wool paneling look fresh.

The chairs are by West Elm.  I have been scouring Craigslist for a similar table - I love it!

LOVE the chevron poufs - they add a punch of mod to the space.

I could read on this couch all afternoon.

Any retreat needs a well stocked bar. I am a coffee girl above a cocktail girl...so I might have a fancy coffee bar instead.

Quaint, calm and collected - check out this adorable NJ farmhouse

I have to admit, I don't exactly think of charming little farms when I think of New Jersey, but undoubtedly there is more to the state than what one sees driving down the turnpike. This little farmhouse is proof that New Jersey must have pockets of beautiful land and towns. The home belongs to designer Terri Cannon-Nelson. Terri has utilized some high end resources (they splurged on cabinetry), paired with some more budget-friendly choices (west elm, target, and ikea).

Love this mix - a country table, a Noguchi lantern, and an over-dyed rug from the 40s!

I like the cabinet - but to me the windows are crying out for some window treatments other that those blinds...

A gorgeous built-in houses her china collection.

I have a serious thing for large floor mirrors...

A charming upstate farm retreat

It's a dream of all (admit it, all) NYC dwellers to have a country retreat. Kathryn Windley was no exception to the rule. She was tired of her grueling hours as an art director for a Manhattan ad agencies, and was recently divorced. She added a new twist to the New Yorker turned farmer by actually marrying the realtor who found her the property a few years later on the 20-acre grounds!

This living room is kept bright and cheery by the white upholstery and brightly striped rug.

In NYC, unless you pay for a separate studio, on never has space in their apartment for a studio.
One day I hope to have the space to paint and draw again.

The barn is actually a garage they designed to look like a barn.

I adore this kitchen, and Kathryn claims the farmhouse sink is what sold her on the property.  The runner was a once a damaged full-sized carpet she had cut and bound to fit the kitchen.

White and wonderful: Sweet Scandinavian homes

Can our Nordic friends do any wrong in the home decorating department?  I've always been drawn to the laid-back style and "well-loved" aesthetic of their homes.

Love this sparse simple bedroom.  I'm really finding that the simpler my bedroom is, the more calming it is.

Looks like arranging your book by spine color is still a popular thing. What do you guys think?  Do you think the trend will last?

Looks like they do color pretty well too!

Such a sweet nook and a good use of an otherwise odd space.

Another good use of space - a sewing nook under the stairs.

A beautiful old home that's upcycled and chic

I was feeling pretty uninspired today trying to decide what to post today. But I remembered I had a new issue of Covet Garden sitting in my inbox - and knew once I saw this first image below that this house tour was the inspiration I needed.
A gold-framed mirror leaning casually on top of a weathered wood bench is the perfect contrast.

We have those chairs, (Ikea), but in black.  The table is amazing.

The house looks like it has great bones, the moulding and ceiling is gorgeous.

The family has decided that this is their forever home - they hope to enjoy it for a long, long time.

The images below are from the family's flower shop, Jaidens Petals.  It shares the same upcycled style as their home.

so pretty!

Tired mind? Keep your bedroom light and airy...

Ugh. I went to bed with a migraine and woke up with one. Nothing but time in bed can give me relief, but deadlines loom, so this bedroom eye candy will have to do...

Keeping a bedroom light, both literally and emotionally, help me feel calm and restful

Great light in this bedroom, and the mirrored closets help magnify the light.

House tour: A vintage, reclaimed, and chic beauty

One day I will have a gorgeous old leather chair...

I'd say those french windows were worth it.  They add so much to the space.
