Skull Trend

Skulls are everywhere!

Lately I've been seeing them on home decor items such as pillows and candles, on jewelry, and on women's apparel. So basically skulls are really in trend right now!

So much so that we even have them in my MadeByGirl shop with items like the popular double skull bracelet & even the skull patterned poster. So, if you'd like to jump on this trend, here are 15 of my favorite skull items out there!

Fashion: Cross Body Bags

Hello loves! Lauren here again. Can you believe it's already mid June? Where does time go? I feel like I just made a post on Spring fashion, and now it's going to be Summer! In fashion, it is hard to know what to spend money on and what not to, especially when trends change so often just like seasons.

But one item that I always like to invest in is my bag - such as the always-in-style cross body bag.

Cross body bags are for sure my favorite because they are just so darn easy to carry. I mean, what girl really wants to lug around a big bag when shopping? I surly don't! They come in all different sizes, for housing small things such as the Iphone, lipsticks, and wallet or bigger things like an Ipad. And so many great patterns and colors.

My suggestion: invest in a neutral cross body bag for year round, and then save on a fun neon cross body for Summer time. Here are some of my current favs!

1. Aldo $40 | 2. Stella & Dot $148 | 3. Ann Taylor $148 | 4. {A03} Designs $65 | 5. Rebecca Minkoff $250 | 6. J. Crew $148 | 7. Rebecca Minkoff $147.50 (on sale!)

My heart is skipping a beat for #7. I mean, classic white plus metal hardware? Yes, please!!
Which of these are your favorites? Do you gravitate towards the neutral shades? Or are the fun graphic prints calling your name? Do tell.

Sunglasses Trend

Hey everyone! How's it going? The week has started off pretty darn busy here for me. I have Cocoa & Hearts paintings that I need to launch this month as well as a few commissions I've been working on...& of course there's MadeByGirl.

However, this weekend while walking around the NYC streets I noticed an interesting trend emerging:

COLORED sunglasses. That's right.

So, along with all the colorful outfits you're seeing while shopping, now you can have glasses to match if you choose to!  I love wearing shades. But, I'm really in need of some new ones, mine are slowly falling apart! Not so sure if I would dare jump on this trend, but then again...I have a tendency to jump on trends after the fact. But, if I had to choose a color & style, I'd go for number 1, Marc Jacobs aviators in hot pink.

Would you wear colored sunglasses? Which of these would you love to take home with you?

2. pretty blue via matthew williamson
3. lime green via matthew williamson
4. bright pink via matthew williamson

Colorful Pants for Men....

Yesterday I received my J. Crew catalog & loved every bit of it. However, when I got to this page (below) I asked my husband, "would you wear colorful pants?"

His response was, "Ewwww, you can quote me on that."

So there you go, my guy will NOT wear colorful pants even if they WERE in trend. Come to think of it, I don't think I'd like to see him in these either. Let's face it, there aren't that many men that can pull these off. Women look much nicer in colorful pants...my opinion.  Sorry J.Crew, I love your stuff, but I just can't picture my guy in mint-colored khakis. In my mind, the only guy who can pull this look off is 1980's Jon Cryer.

I'd love to know what you think. Colorful pants on guys, yes or no??

P.S. capri pants are even worse.

Holst + Lee Debut Collection...

Holst + Lee is a New York City based company - lead by 2 talented girls who make the most colorful collection of jewelry I've seen.  Today I'm highlighting their debut collection......this stuff is HOT out of the oven & just in time for Spring!!  I've already chosen my favorite below, but I really just LOVE all of them, don't you?

Well, this type of jewelry may not be for everyone, only for those who dare to wear bold & colorful pieces...

Try them if you dare, you'll find they have many different styles as well as bracelets!

Cool and easy things to do with wallpaper other than covering the walls

For better or worse, it seems like the wallpaper trend is going to be sticking around for awhile. Luckily, there are some VERY stunning wallpapers out there. Unfortunately, the thought of hanging wallpaper in an entire room and paying for multiple rolls doesn't exactly thrill me. But these projects from Do It Yourself Magazine won't take too long to accomplish, and you can choose the prettiest wallpaper you can find because the small amounts you'll use won't break the bank!

This is probably my favorite - so pretty!

Great way to decorate if you don't have the money for art

Do any of these catch your fancy?

Go to Do It Yourself Magazine for how-to's.
