Happy Earth Day!

In honor of the 40th annual Earth Day (and finishing a big bag of rice), I'm bringing back some repurposed bags. :)

I needed a break today.

I've been sewing non-stop for the past few weeks. I really needed a break from sewing (bags).  I keep a pile of thrift store finds nearby for instances like this.  I found an over sized, unflattering ruffle shirt and thought I would transform it into a simple tank to wear this weekend.

What do you think?

After: Altered Ruffle Shirt

I needed more clothes.

I rarely like to go shopping...unless it's for fabric and hardware, or vintage shoes, or any shoes. But that's it. I swear. Anyway, yesterday I asked my brother Chris if we could stop by the mall because I wanted to expand my wardrobe a little, and he quickly replied with no hesitation whatsoever, "No. You have a room full of old clothes and fabric. Make something."

He's so inspirational. And with that, I made something.

$3.99 Goodwill find.
No additional fabric added.
Have just enough fabric left over to make a small pouch.

Reconstructed Shirt
After! Added darts in the front, took in the sides, shortened the sleeves (and made them poofy), and added epaulets.

Check out them epaulets!

Now I'm ready to visit my friend Ashton for some two-steppin'! Sorry I had to massacre this Tommy shirt and post its remains for the public to see (I know you have everything Tommy). I would have donated it to you, but it wasn't your size. :)

Repurposed Clothing

I really enjoy transforming great things into better, more useful things. Below is that purple suede pant that I told you about earlier made into a trendy sling. The unfortunate side effect of this recycling project is that everything is a brand new project and there are more flaws than one would expect out of making the same product over and over again. But then again, these items are one of a kind and hand made, so flaws are assumed in the design. Check out the latest makings!

Sling made from repurposed purple suede leather pants, unbleached cotton, and a shoe string.

Messenger made from mens dress pants and black microsuede.

These two items will be posted in the shop this week!
