Loving the new trend of bright colors but afraid to try? Here's how to start

More and more I see beautiful, bold color on the covers of home decor mags but rarely do you ever see such color in someone's home. The reason is that, as I'm sure you know, the thought of painting your living room royal blue, or whatever your color crush, is a little scary....

The trick, and I'm sure this is no secret - is to start with a few accessories in a color you love, and then, if you are happy living with it, start adding more and more layers at a time.

For example, in the room above - maybe they just started with those fab. aqua pillows. They were happy and added the aqua lamp. Then maybe the colorful vase you see in the back. Their courage was up and maybe a few weeks or months later they add some pink pillows and those gorgeous blue curtains!

Bright color is scary enough, so stick with one hue if you need to. This cornflower blue alone has big impact.

Really color shy? Try just adding a bright throw as seen in the two views of the living room below. Sometimes just one pop is enough to satiate your need for color...

If you want to be a little braver - try an upholstered piece, like this gorgeous plum velvet chesterfield. Mix and match pillows and an eclectic rug keeps the space down to earth.

In the jewel-toned home office above, different bold colors are brought in in layers - a turquoise screen, a plum chair, and green foliage.

Now...for those of us who think we may be able to paint....

Maybe start with a washed effect of a bright color....like this pink below, which is bright but also a little translucent.

...or try going all out in a smaller space, like this purple hall, fully decked out with a vibrantly patterned chaise and that AMAZING pillow!

I don't know if I'll ever be brave enough to do something like this but it sure is glamorous isn't it!

How about you? Have you wanted to use color but are always too scared? Is anyone living with color and loving it?

Stunning interior photography from Dan Duchars

I think these photos speak for themselves...

I love the color on the walls, but I don't know if I'd ever have the guts to use it on a wall...maybe I'd test it out in a bathroom or hall...have you used a color this bold?

...soooo pretty

What do you think of these?

Anthropologie's inspiring lookbook!

Anthropologie has a very new online lookbook for the home. The styling is really inspirational - I love the staging in the master bedroom and the guest bedroom.

So bright a beautiful. I think this bedroom displays a great use of color - surprisingly, the white bedding alone satisfies my love of white.

I also love the guest bedroom - it's making me want to buy new bedding! Too bad my wallet is on lock down. The headboard and chandelier are gorgeous too.

The look book interface has little clickable snippets for design tips and links to more.

I don't know if I could handle the green wall permanently - but it's really refreshing here.

We've seen this chesterfield and the reclaimed wood coffee table before - but I just can't help drooling over it a little more!

CHESTERFIELDS are so fab !

I LOVE chesterfield sofas and these were especially nice from Maison du Monde. My favorite is definately the dark one in smooth velvet. If anyone has a Chesterfield in their home, I'd love to have you email me a pic. Don't you just love the black and white decor? Oui !!

Art making a difference

I meant to post this picture for quite awhile now, somehow it got lost in my many folders. However, here it is for all of you to see. This stylish livingroom design by the awesome Kelly Wearstler, was featured on the front cover of 'Western Interiors and Design Magazine' in the Oct 2006 issue. (Also one of my favorites) I absolutely adore the painting on the wall behind the chesterfield sofa....which is on my list of 'next sofas to buy'. I think art is essential and makes such a difference. This painting happens to be very simple (Green & Charcoal) , yet makes quite a statement. I enjoy that aspect. HAPPY SAINT PATRICK'S DAY!!
