The Boy’s Bath {Before & After}

As always, I want to kick off the reveal with a reminder of the before.  This is where we started on move in day.  I’d never in my life laid eye on a tri-fold shower door or a tri-fold mirrored medicine cabinet until I became the proud owner of such lovely items.  All jokes aside, I was very appreciative of the updated counter, sink and faucets and was pleased that the “vintage” honeycomb tile was white and in good repair.

So before we moved in, we removed the medicine cabinet and shower door contraption, gave it a good scrubbing and painted the walls and vanity.  We had all of the Pottery Barn Alphabet Soup decor from our old house and just made it work in the new space.  See more of the Baby’s Bath here.

So now the teeniest space in the house has seen another update!  With all the basics done, this before and after was really just about changing the decor.

Sources:
  • Paint – Benjamin Moore Edgecomb Gray (walls) and Alabaster (vanity and trim)
  • Mirror – Target (It was originally black but for this update I painted it in Annie Sloan’s Old White chalk paint with a clear glaze.)
  • Light – Pullman Bath Light from Shades of Light
  • Shower curtain – Target
  • Rug – Target
  • Towel bars & curtain rod – Home Depot
  • Nate Berkus Tortoise Shell
  • The Line Print from Old Try
 January 2013 409 copy

I originally purchased the Nate Berkus tortoise shell for the baby’s big boy room but ran out of wall space.  I’ve had the towels at least since the baby was born!  They were from Love Street in Smyrna and feature burlap appliques of the littles’ first initials.

January 2013 400 copy
Y’all know I have a slight obsession with Old Try’s line of letterpressed prints.  This particular one is called The Line and was also originally purchased for the big boy room.  It is framed in an Ikea frame with a piece of art paper behind it since it didn’t fit exactly in the mat.

January 2013 423 copy

The shower curtain is from Target and was a real production, as things tend to be around here :-)  I wanted to keep the height on the curtain since it makes the ceilings look so tall so I ended up buying two shower curtains and begging Mother to cutting the three ruffled bands off the bottom of the second and sewing them on to make the first the right height.  I have a second lower rod back there that holds the plastic liner.  The rug is also from Target, but I’ve had it for about a year now.  I originally purchased it for the mud room and then I lost it so I purchased a new identical one and then I found it.  Follow that?

I think this rendition of the boy’s bath should last a good long while!!

I Love {Mary Pratt}

I’m back today with another of my favorite local artists – Mary Pratt of Pink Chair Studio.  Mary is mother to my dear friend Anna, grandma to two of the most darling little girls you could ever hope to know AND a stunning artist.  I’ve had the great pleasure of getting to know her over the last few years and always look forward to seeing her at Anna’s parties, gatherings and events.  This is the piece that started an instant and all-encompassing love affair with Mary…

…can you even believe the gorgeousness?  I literally swooned right there in Anna’s kitchen.

This portrait of a family friend’s daughter is equally as marvelous.  I’ve seen this child in person and I can honestly say that this perfectly captures her!  I sure would love to have one of the boys (I’m putting that out there on the off chance Honey is reading.)

It should come as no surprise that I’m drawn to her coastal pieces.  Here are a few of my favorites…

Soooo…after admiring Mary’s work in Anna’s home and through her Facebook page for a good long while, I was absolutely positively thrilled when Honey told me I could work with her on a piece for our bedroom for my Christmas gift.  I loved the idea of a diptych after seeing the aforementioned peacock painting and wanted something coastal in my muted colors.  Imagine my absolute delight when she presented me with this…  (that would be the second time I swooned in Anna’s kitchen).  She used thick gallery wrapped canvases - the two 20x24” pieces make for a total size of 40x24”.

I truly couldn’t have dreamed up anything more perfect and I cannot wait for y’all to see what we’ve done with it!!!  One of my favorite Christmas gifts of all time!

Made By Girl now on Instagram!!

Many of you have asked if MadeByGirl was on Instagram. Well, I was.

However, it was a private account with family photos & so on. A couple days ago I asked my assistant Daisy, to revamp it & allow you guys to follow.  Sometimes when I get sooo caught up in work, I don't realize how popular things are getting. I almost let this pass me by! #OHMYGosh

But nonetheless, I'm now on Instagram & you can follow me here if you like.

I update almost everyday & most of the pics you will  only see there & NOT on my blog. See you there!

Are you on Instagram? Do you use it often?

Cocoa & Hearts News

Hey guys ! Welcome back...I swear, it was so nice to get some rest this weekend, I totally needed it. My chiropractor told me that I needed to get off my computer to help my BACK PAIN...seems like ours computers are our worst enemies at times, know what I mean?!??

Hope you all had a great few days as well! As for me, I've been working on some commissions with a few clients - here is one I did yesterday for a client's home office. She wanted a combination of blush pinks & gold mainly. I love the way it turned out, how about you??

I'm still working on a few more but should be available to start more commissions around October 25th or so. If interested email me with size of painting you'd like & colors you prefer to see. If you're unsure of style, visit my gallery at Cocoa & Hearts.

Also - more paintings to be added as well to the gallery toward the end of this month!

Apartments + iPhone + Friday

Our search for an apartment continues this weekend. It seems like the rents are higher & the sq. footage has gotten smaller, unreal. New York City!! What happened to you?!??

Anyhow, I will try to relax this weekend as well, I hope. In the meantime, please check out the Cocoa & Hearts iPhone case available here - at this time we only have this color, but I promise new colors will follow. Have a great weekend!

My NYC Home Office

Hello everyone! I finally wanted to share some photos of my current office space here in my NYC apartment. These particular photos were shot by Janis Nicolay earlier this year. When I first decorated this space, I wanted something WILD & colorful, so I added FLOR tiles - which I love by the way & colorful art!

Interestingly enough, I just found out we'll be moving to another apartment in November!!!!  That means apartment NYC hunting next month + new office...woo hoo! Exciting!

Zebra print tiles are by FLOR

Abstract artwork is my own - you can see more in my online gallery via cocoa & hearts
