The glamorous interiors of Schuyler Samperton

It is always such a treat when I'm introduced to an interior designer whose work I haven't seen before. It doesn't happen very often, which is why I'm really excited to share with you Schuyler Samperton. She's an LA based designer with a cool modern twist on traditional decorating. I'm sure some of you do know her work - and even if you've seen it before, I imagine it's just as beautiful to look at the second..., third..., fourth time around...

Pops of pink and turquoise balance out the visual heaviness of the dark wood beams

I would never think to put together that rug that table, with those curtains and that striped chair.  It's a very unexpected blend, and I like that it looks like the furnishings and decor was collected over time as opposed to items purchased just to match.

The two below images are from the home of model Carolyn Murphy, which was featured in March's vogue!

Those wood floors are heaven!

Interiors that embody today's "traditional"

I think the below interiors really capture what I might consider today's "traditional" home. These are all real homes, so they aren't the staged, sometimes unlivable, concepts we see in magazines.

What do you think? How would you describe today's "traditional" home?

That little guy is the cutest!

Take your pick: Living rooms for every taste and style

Along with your bedroom and the kitchen, I think the living room is one place in the house that should be a reflection of you - and be comfortable and beautiful. Hopefully one of the images below will provide some inspiration:

Traditional Interior Design

In the interior design world we refer to “styles" often to dictate the look and feel of particular rooms. The most used style of decorating is the use of the “classics" and we refer to this style as traditional.

Traditional is derived from the word “tradition", meaning that this style of decorating has been passed on through generations. Classic decorating includes timeless purchases of furniture pieces, accessories, flooring and fixtures. Most of us make purchases without the thought of it being in style ten years from now. Most of our purchases are often “trendy" and in the next several years will be out of style and so we are faced with the necessity of replacing our furnishings as well as our flooring, fixtures and etc.

“Timeless Elegance, traditional and classic"

beautiful yet approachable,

filled with class, yet comfortable.

Our homes are our sanctuaries where we are filled with the people and environment that we love.

Adding to our rooms the simple luxuries that fill us with joy and bring beauty to our eye is undeniably perfection.

Designer Portfolio! The elegant and chic work of Sara Gilbane

Probably the element of Sara's work that I appreciate the most is how practical it is! It's not so matchy-matchy that you can't add your own personal possessions, and it looks comfy but also has personality.

Do you agree?

The color of that bench next to the turquoise tables is perfect. I'm a big fan on fuchsia right now

Loving the ethnic, old world character of this room

Creative, stylish bedrooms

I did a little revamping of my bedroom this weekend, so I thought I'd share some of my inspiration! Each of these bedrooms I find a little out of the ordinary for one reason or another - and the twist really gives them a fresh look that isn't too "straight out of a magazine." Which is your favorite?

A. Retro

B. Lots of Texture

C. New and neutral

D. Traditional

E. Clean lines with lime accent

F. Traditional with bright accents

G. Exotic Traditional

H. Elegant floral

I. Classic Modern

J. Vintage

Check out my guest post over at the City Sage about retro decor!

Ashley from Decorology here! I think I love retro and vintage so much because it enables me to create an environment reminiscent of times when people couldn't talk on the phone while shopping for groceries, didn't eat dinner in front of the TV, and put a little more effort in personal presentation (i.e. - a time where Uggs would not be considered acceptable in the workplace - or in public for that matter) Not that I'm not guilty of weary sneakers to work from time to time....I think part of it is that we are so rushed the idea of living this way seems completely out of one's grasp. Maybe - with a little effort - if you decorate for a life where one can stop to smell the roses, one day you can!

I love this mix of modern an vintage - the classic white and black palette holds it all together (via Country Living).

Retro or vintage can be so many things - glamorous luxury, cozy and artsy, or clean and refined (via House Beautiful).

For those of us who don't have the budget - retro and "vintage" reproductions are pretty easy to find...(via Ideal Home).

country-style vintage...(via Poetic Home).

Photographer's portfolio! Awesome interiors...

Welcome to the wonderful work of Paul Costello! You've probably seen his work in various issues of Domino magazine. He has a great range and I love the homey, eclectic, well-worn feeling of these homes.
