GT Homecoming

While the game itself left much to be desired, it didn’t put the slightest damper on 3/4 of our family’s Georgia Tech homecoming fun!  (Y’all have likely figured out that the odd man out in that equation is Honey…and that he was more than disappointed in his team’s performance.)  We arrived crazy early and spent hours tailgating with the oldest and best of friends.  It was impossible not to marvel at all the darling littles running around, and at how we’ve all stayed connected over the last *cough* fifteen years.

After the game Honey and the PCP headed over to the SAE house for a while and then made a little stop by the ZTA house.  John was more upset by the fact that UGA won than that GT lost, but we ended the day with our standard “if you had fun you won” mantra.  And have fun we did indeed!

Before I jet off to get the littles ready for mass, I want to say just how much each and every one of your comments on my Deen Team post yesterday means to me.  I read and reread every single one.  And then I read them again to Honey with a tear in my eye and a squeak in my voice.  I am humbled and grateful and flattered and thankful.  This blog writing thing has been one incredible journey!  THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!

The TECH Game

Saturday in the South in the fall can pretty much be summed up by one word…FOOTBALL!  And the PCP was beyond excited to attend the Tech vs Miami game with his daddy yesterday.  (Sporting his team signed tee, no less!)

When I’d not seen hide nor hair of them by seven thirty, I inquired as to their whereabouts only to find out they were having the time of their lives at the SAE fraternity house.  Oh my!  John adored meeting some of Honey’s friends and recounted his visit to me like this:  “"I loved Mr. T's house (he thought the house belonged to our friend BT) and I wanted to spend the night. They have a movie theater and a server thing and I got to throw tennis balls inside and sometimes they hit the windows!!! All boys live there! Oh, and can Mr. L pleeeeeeease be my babysitter??"

I can't help but smile :-) I never ever in a million years could have imagined my very own son (and the spitting image of the “the cutest boy in school” standing on that front porch back in the day!

As for the rest of our weekend, we played a baseball game, did some yard work, baked our brand new neighbor (with 15 month old triplet boys!) some banana bread, went to meet blonde Amanda’s new baby boy, played ball in the yard and had a little slumber party with Bird.

It was exactly the low key kind of weekend I was hoping for!

The Walking Dead

…is about how I feel right now.  We had so much fun this weekend that I’m surprised I’m still awake to tell you about it.

We had baseball games Friday and Saturday.

TECH Fan Day

The littles were beyond excited to attend their very first Fan Day at Georgia Tech.  They were already beside themselves with the bounce houses and free throw areas, so meeting the football team, cheerleaders, dance team and Buzz was just the icing on the cake!

August 2012 348 copy Next up was the defensive line, “the biggest, strongest and meanest on the field” according to Honey.  They were having such a fun time, dancing, making jokes and really enamoring the kids that this was by far our favorite tent.  Cookie was completely star struck and could barely give high fives or tell them his name.  John, on the other hand, was brimming with confidence – even going so far as to ask if they would like to see his muscles.  Mercy…that child slays me.  With Anthony Williams #56 and Jimmie Kitchen #98.

August 2012 357 copy August 2012 358 copy Like the princesses at Disney, the baby was terrified of the cheerleaders and dance team.  It took a whole lot of coercing to get him to pose nicely with them.

August 2012 363 copy They left with t-shirts full of signatures and memories that will last a lifetime.  Such a fun and special day!

August 2012 365 The baby, of course, has yet to take off his shirt.  I guess I’m going to have to sneak it off him in his sleep to get it clean :-)

Take Me Out To The…

…BRAWL Game!
April 2012 768
Is that not the cutest tagline ever for the annual Spring Classic meeting of Southern rivals Georgia Tech and University of Georgia?!?!

Like last year, we scooted into town for a convivial tailgate hosted by a few college friends aka the brains behind Hunter Technical Resources (for those of you job hunting in the ATL.)  While the adults gathered round the bbq and beer, the 8 and unders dominated both the corn hole boards and the ladder golf.  It was probably the first time ever that tailgating with the littles has been just plain fun for all involved.

Inside the stadium, we scored FRONT ROW seats directly in front of the pitcher’s mound and right next to the Tech dugout (Honey was just a tish worried about having me in such close proximity to all those tight white pants.)  The boys (all three of them) were over the moon.  I thought Cookie might have swooned when Jake Davies, who just so happens to have been named ACC Player of the Week, waved at him and said hello.  Of course, Honey – a Tech ball playing alumnus himself – was grinning like the cheshire cat as he explained the intricacies of a college ball game to our little coach pitch player.

And, at the end of the night, Tech beat the mutts 4-3!  Down with the red and black...up with the white and gold!

The Den is Done!

If you remember back to when I laid out our vision and goals for the space, we set out to construct a cozy tv area that would comfortably seat four and still allow room for the three boys to play the wii.  This part of the basement has been in the works the longest.  You see, approximately ONE day after we started the project, Honey ventured out to purchase a much coveted and long awaited brand spanking new T.V. for Cartoon Network funnies, sports viewing and wii playing.  It arrived approximately ONE week into the project.  Since we had no walls at that stage in the game, Honey diligently pulled his first all-nighter since we had a newborn in the house to construct, hang and paint this ONE wall.  ONE year later, we have hung the last picture on the wall and are calling it a day year.

I don't have a before picture.  Just imagine a dark, empty room with concrete block walls, concrete floor and no ceiling.  That's the before.  And the before before boasted nasty, warped paneling on the walls, old water stained chalky ceiling tiles that look like they had gray worms all over them and blue indoor / outdoor carpet complete with stains and an odor I cannot even begin to describe.  Ghastly, no?

So, without further ado, here is the after...
Here's the scoop on the details:
- Board and batten walls painted in Benjamin Moore's Snow on the Mountain
- Rowe sofa custom ordered through G. Scott Interiors (formerly known as both Patina Home Furnishings and Love Street Home).  As soon as I saw "clean with Shout and water" I knew this was the fabric for me!
- Entertainment console was hand me down from Honey's late daddy.  Painted by yours truly and Mother in high gloss BM Snow on the Mountain, with inside in BM Fieldstone.
- Alexis lamps in sundrop yellow from Pottery Barn
- Lamp shades from Target
- Yellow coverlet from Target (king size cut down into two throws - one here, one on banquette)
- Double Dot Rug from PB Teen
- Yellow, nine rosette pillows from Target
- Lack side tables from Ikea.  They came in yellow, but I repainted them in a different shade of less neonish yellow.
- Yellow leopard pillows (Premier Prints fabric in corn) sewn by Mother
- Signed jersey, vintage signed Pirates picture and Georgia Tech football programs collected by Honey, Honey's late daddy and moi

And, should you want to peruse the unabridged edition of ALL the titillating details for this entire project, look here for the vision, here for a eight month update, here for the bar reveal and here for the finally finished banquette.  Up next is the buffet wall and stairway!!

Until tomorrow,
xoxo
